Hey, sure, why not?

Aug. 31st 2010

Up in Alaska they think a little differently. But not incorrectly.

SCARPA T2s are warm after all … just not necessarily made for skydiving … exactly …

Here’s a little shot we got from one of our dealers, Orion Mountain Sports up in Kodiak, AK, showing what they do with SCARPA telemark boots during the down season.

But, judging by the backdrop, arguably there’s not a down season up north.

Maybe his skis are waiting for him below?

Summer OR at the SCARPA booth

Aug. 23rd 2010

Now that we’re all back and have a few weeks under our belt after the summer Outdoor Retailer show, we can now safely look back and reflect on what it all meant. As always, part of what the show is all about is camaraderie, good friends and good people.

Here’s a look at what it was like at the SCARPA North America booth.

Beta on staying hydrated on alpine climbs

Aug. 19th 2010

Carrying water on your back while alpine climbing can affect your center of gravity and potentially leak in a place you don’t want water leaking. SCARPA team member Stephen Koch offers up some tips for how he modifies plastic bottles so he can carry water easily on his harness, and simultaneously re-use plastic bottles.

Scroll around his YouTube Channel too – he’s posted a bunch of these ‘how-to’ vids on tips that he’s discovered from decades as a pro climber/mountain guide.

Planet Friendly and the performance story

Aug. 17th 2010

Isn’t it cool when there’s an upside to choosing a more eco-friendly product?

For a lot of years, SCARPA has been looking to source recycled or otherwise more eco-friendly materials to use in its footwear. In the last year, it began calling out such efforts in it’s Planet Friendly Program, which denotes products make with a substantive materials contribution on one of those fronts.

Eric Larsen heads for ‘third pole’

Aug. 11th 2010

Reaching the North and South Poles and the Summit of Everest would be three incredible feats for one person. Doing them in the span of one year would be measures more impressive.

That’s the goal that Eric Larson has set for himself in 2010, and while it’s a story that you’ve likely heard about (getting good media coverage out there, including this piece in the New York Times), here’s an update on Outside Magazine’s web site from climber Alan Arnette. Eric’s reached both poles so far this year and this fall will be setting out to try to summit Everest, a different beast entirely than contending with polar bears and long treks day after day on skis (SCARPA built him a custom pair of Phantom 8000s, our high-elevation climbing boot, complete with telemark soles so they’d be compatible with his ski-touring setup).

Topher Donahue earns 2010 Banff Mountain Festival Signature Shot

Aug. 9th 2010

We’re stoked for photographer and SCARPA team member Topher Donahue, who just e-mailed to let us know one of his photos has been chosen as the 2010 signature shot of the Banff Mountain Festival, arguably the world’s premier festival of mountain film, arts and culture.

The shot was taken during one of Donahue’s trips to Argentine Patagonia and the Fitzroy region, where he caught climbing partner Jared Ogden leaping over a crevasse on approach to one of their climbs.
