All About Her: SCARPA’s Women-Specific Freedom SL

Nov. 12th 2013

Combining the downhill chops of alpine performance with the seamless ergonomics of backcountry touring, SCARPA has produced their new women’s Freedom SL, the female specific all-mountain, hard-charging freeride ski boot. Matching strength and efficiency in one complete package, the women’s Freedom SL boots were developed with an anatomical last and cuff height for female foot shapes to maximize precision performance, comfort and fit. With best in class features and performance, alpine stiffness, superior range of cuff motion and weight, and an innovative DIN/Tech fitting sole system, The Freedom SL is all about her.

The 120 flex index Freedom SL has set a high standard, giving skiers what a real freeride boot should do: the freedom to choose. Whether you spend the majority of your days charging a resort’s challenging test pieces, or stomping powder stashes just past the gates, OR setting sights on distant objectives deep in the backcountry, the versatility of the Freedom SL allows you the ability to adapt to ever-changing skiing objectives without worry.

SCARPA’s overlap construction is built to guarantee a gap-free connection with the lower leg and instep, to provide enhanced leverage and superior power transmission. With increased edge to edge precision, it can better hold its own with the rigors of resort based skiing, including hard pack, icy groomers and skied out terrain, but they will also allow you the ergonomic freedom to take them deeper into the backcountry, where wild snow can include breakable crusts, slop, variable conditions, and refrozen coral.

Using an Intuition™ tongue style liner, the snug but ergonomic fit gives top notch downhill performance, but by design also reduces the chance of blisters due to unnecessary friction from heel slip or toe slide when skinning or bootpacking. Because the women-specific cuff height is a little lower, the anatomical advantage is felt when skinning, but doesn’t compromise any performance for the down.

The Ride Power Block walk mode assures a friction-free motion when it’s released, and simultaneously increases the cuff range of motion to a wide 27 degrees—breaking trail has never been more fun. When locked, it works in concert with the V-Frame Power Ribs, which provides considerable strength for optimum downhill performance, offering the best back support and augmented power transmission in downhill skiing.

SCARPA’s Carbon Core Technology over-injects the boot’s lower shell around a carbon fiber core. This augments power to the ski without adding unnecessary bulk. The result? A trim 7-pounds-per-pair boot (size 25), that delivers a desirable strength-to-weight ratio. What’s more, SCARPA sized the Women’s Freedom SL from 27 to as low as 21.5 shell size to fit just about any female foot.
