Ice climbing season is upon us and the time to celebrate is December 5-9 at the Bozeman Ice Climbing Festival, where a crew from SCARPA will be headed in a couple weeks. In its 16th year (started in 1996), the Bozeman Ice Fest will take place in the famous ice and mixed climbing mecca Hyalite Canyon, outside of Bozeman, Montana.
The five days will be filled with on-ice clinics in Hyalite Canyon, competitions, gear demos and evening parties and presentations from professional ice climbing athletes. SCARPA will provide demos throughout the event and SCARPA athletes Gord McArthur and Kris Erickson will be on-site teaching clinics. Tom Catmull and the Clerics will be rockin’ the night away on Saturday, December 8 at the Climbing Celebration and Dance Party at the Emerson Ballroom. But the Bozeman Ice Fest is not just an ice-climbing party. The festival’s mission is to “promote the sport of ice climbing to people of all ages and abilities, to educate ice climbers about necessary skills and safe techniques, and to introduce climbers to cutting edge clothing and equipment.” All proceeds from the event go to directly to the local non-profit, Friends of Hyalite Canyon, which supports winter access into Hyalite Canyon specifically for ice climbing.
