Are We Hardwired for Adventure?

Mar. 17th 2015

by Rob Coppolillo

People much smarter, braver, and tougher than me have spent books upon books writing about adventure. They’ve gone bigger than me, written in second and third languages about epics on unknown peaks, survived buck-naked disasters in backwater republics, been held hostage by savage barbarians in empires that have crumbled to dust.

But I did lead the Bastille Crack (5.7) in a snowstorm one time … and this was in the days before cell phones, so it counts as “extreme.” Has Reinhold Messner climbed the Bastille in winter? Thought so.

SCARPA’s First Friday Film Fest: March

Mar. 6th 2015

Happy First Friday Film Fest! See the latest video collection featuring our athletes on big mountain adventures. From V14 sends to Aspen’s big lines and weekending in Vermont, take a break from your day and get stoked for the weekend.

Spring Time Big Lines: Hunter Hayden Linkup

Jake Sakson and Paul Kimbrough, of Beans and Rice Free Ride, knock off two of Aspen’s big lines in a single push, skiing the East face of Hunter (13,497′) and the West face of Ski Hayden (13,300′). Both lines are 3,500′ of non stop leg screaming fun and offer steep open faces, reminiscent of Alaska style shredding.

Freeride Skier Lynsey Dyer Joins SCARPA Athlete Roster

Jan. 14th 2015

We’re so excited to announce that freeride skier Lynsey Dyer has joined our athlete roster! Based in Jackson, Wyoming, Dyer is well known as one of the most accomplished women in big-mountain skiing.

In 2014, she was named Skier of the Year by Freeskier Magazine, and, through her Film Production Company, Unicorn Picnic, she also spearheaded the release of the industry’s first all-women’s ski film, Pretty Faces.

She’s also been featured in ski films from Teton Gravity Research and Warren Miller, and she’s hosted television shows on NBC and ESPN, along with appearing on Good Morning America. In 2006, Dyer also co-founded the non-profit organization SheJumps, which works to increase women’s participation in outdoor sports.
