A brief history of the SCARPA T1, heir to the original plastic telemark ski boot

Jan. 10th 2013

When it hit the market in fall 1992, the SCARPA Terminator changed the game in telemark skiing. The world’s first plastic tele boot, the Terminator improved performance, durability and protection from the elements, not to mention changed people’s ideas about how backcountry-skiing gear could and should work.

Direct heir to the Terminator, today’s SCARPA T1 telemark ski boot is still regarded as the vanguard in plastic telemark boots. That’s a distinguished pedigree. And – while there’s been a lot of progression and design upgrades over the years to continue to improve performance in the T1 (keep on reading for what they are) and all of the Terminator-series boots – it’s interesting, and amazing, how much the original Terminator got right more than 20 years ago when it first hit the market.

The current 2013 T1 is still one of the most sought-after performance telemark ski boots in the world. Used by progressive tele skiers like like Jake Sakson and Paul Kimbrough, the T1 sets the bar for all-around performance in four-buckle 75 mm telemark boots. SCARPA has also evolved the T1 into a boot that works for the new Rottefella NTN binding system, the Terminator X Pro.

SCARPA Maestrale, TX Pro win Backcountry Mag 2011 Editor’s Choice Award

Aug. 25th 2011

Here in the more northern parts of the country, there are many signs that – despite it still being summer – ski season is most decidedly on the way. The nights are getting cooler. Bars conversations inevitably turn to what gear you should be on this season. And the ski mags’ gear guides are starting to show up in mailboxes.

This week, Backcountry Magazine’s first issue, its annual gear guide, is out, and SCARPA boots won two 2011 Editor’s Choice Awards, the Maestrale in alpine-touring and the Terminator X Pro, also known as the TX Pro, in telemark.

You can read their take in the magazine, but suffice to say they liked what they saw. What’s the rest of the the story?

Rottefella NTN rebate offers $100 for telemarkers ready to commit

Sep. 24th 2010

Cool news for telemarkers! Rottefella is offering a $100 rebate for those who purchase both NTN bindings and any NTN boot, including the SCARPA Terminator X, Terminator X Pro and TX Comp, between Oct 1, 2010 and January 31, 2011.

Coming into it’s fourth season, the NTN system is the most innovative telemark binding system, offering more power, performance and ease of use than any other telemark binding available. The binding and boots from SCARPA’s NTN collection have won Backcountry Magazine Editor’s Choice Awards each of the last two years.

To get the rebate, which comes in the form of a Visa gift card after purchase, you just have to send in a receipt for boots and bindings dated between Oct. 1, 2010 and Jan. 31, 2011, along with the filled in form from Rottefella. To get a copy of the form, just click on the ‘more’ button at the bottom of this post, then save the form to your desktop and print out.  These forms will also be available through retail shops that sell the NTN system and at ski demos where you try the NTN system.

Stay tuned, Rottefella is planning an NTN tour across the U.S. this season. We’ll post the details as soon as we know.
