Mother Nature has a tendency to give climbers—literally—the cold shoulder. While many prefer being around her in sunnier dispositions, others do enjoy her good graces through tough love approaches and icier mood swings high in the hills. Having the right tools helps. When frozen ground, bottomless temps and high winds are compulsory, the Phantom 8000, SCARPA’s preeminent high altitude cold weather boot is the standard.
The Phantom 8000 is designed and built to withstand the harshest and prolonged alpine engagements. Several key features form the foundation for the 8000’s alpine abilities. Beginning with the advanced mid sole system, the 8000 maximizes shock absorption and sensitivity while maintaining a significantly light mid sole body mass, which is essential for high altitude expeditions. Its nimbleness shaves unnecessary ounces while denying none of the warmth, protection and comfort of a multi-dexterous mountain boot.
SCARPA engineered the 8000 for no-hassle use in an uncompromising environment. The inner thermo-formable liner can be molded to the user’s foot for optimum agility for technical pursuits, and superior coziness for potentially long days or tent bound activities. The speedy lacing system can be manipulated with gloved hands, and allows the user to pull the laces snugly across the forefoot for control yet keeps ankles free for greater articulation, all with a single toggle catch and release.
The Cordura/Kevlar outer gaiter uses Outdry® technology to create an abrasion and tear resistant shell that is also waterproof breathable for optimal cold weather protection. These outers utilize insulating foam sandwiched between layers of aluminum for supreme protection from the elements. The current upgrade also features the Vibram® Mulaz sole system which accepts the vast array of automatic and semi-automatic crampons, the usual companions to high altitude alpinists.
