We’re stoked for photographer and SCARPA team member Topher Donahue, who just e-mailed to let us know one of his photos has been chosen as the 2010 signature shot of the Banff Mountain Festival, arguably the world’s premier festival of mountain film, arts and culture.
The shot was taken during one of Donahue’s trips to Argentine Patagonia and the Fitzroy region, where he caught climbing partner Jared Ogden leaping over a crevasse on approach to one of their climbs.
This year, the festival kicks off Oct. 30, and typically attracts 10,000 to the small mountain community that is Banff. A week of competitions, art exhibits and film showings, and writing, photography and film workshops ensues. Afterwards, the best films go on a world tour.
Appropriate to have a signature shot from a guy like Donahue, who’s not only climbed around the world and known for his photography, but he also penned a book in 2008 called Bugaboo Dreams about the evolution of heli-skiing in he Canadian Rockies, and the story of heli pioneer Hans Gmoser.
